SYTYCD Live Blogging Top 8

Ok, the final 8, keep checking back for live updates…..

Final Scores….

Joshua and Chelsea – 17
Mark and Comfort – 13
Twitch and Katee – 17
Will and Courtney – 17

If I factor in the solos, and individual performances amongst the partner dances, my prediction for bottom two:

Guys: Mark, Will.
Girls: Comfort, Courtney (but maybe my beloved Katee).

Going home: Comfort and Mark.

Joshua and Chelsea Disco:
Great routine, I think this is probably Chelsea’s night. I thought Joshua was a little behind Chelsea for much of the routine and didn’t have that disco fever. Chelsea just went for it, little firecracker for the whole routine. Odd thing during the ‘super difficult’ lift where she grabbed herself in the turn, will have to watch that on the DVR again later to see what happened. Good end to the show. 8/10

Mark and Comfort Foxtrot:
Better than I expected but so often the Foxtrot is performed as a caricature of the real thing and I definitely felt this tonight. Comfort is not elegant. Mark is standing too far back, weight should be forward in ballroom, the extension comes from the neck, not the back. In closed hold they could have driven a bus between them and each looked like they were running after each other. Not good, really. Please can Comfort go home this week (again). 6/10

Twitch and Katee Broadway:
Tyce and Mia in the same night – this pair should be invincible. Katee was definitely born for this style, I can see her on stage over and over. There’s something missing with Katee tonight – am I just expecting too much from her? Is she starting to believe she can win and somehow she has lost something? Highly enjoyable routine. Twitch was great, I do think he will be in the top 2 guys. And if Katee isn’t in the final 2, then something went wrong somewhere. 9/10

Will and Courtney Hip Hop:
So I didn’t like the last hip hop because it was so slow so it’s odd that I really liked this one. The slowness allowed us to see movement in between beats and on beats that we usually miss. Awesome choreography and well danced together. But really, I loved the feeling in the body that the routine allowed us to see, and that they were able to show us. 9/10

Joshua and Chelsea Argentine Tango:
There are three dances on this show that make me want to run out and return to dance: Paso Doble, Flamenco and Argentine Tango. Not the hottest tango of the show but it captured the atmosphere for sure. If Joshua could have leant in a little bit he would have captured it perfectly; it meant there was not quite the steamy passion that otherwise would have been there. Chelsea is a ballroom dancer and she knows what she’s doing. Her legs are amazing but I almost felt that they were too good, more balletic than tango. Great routine, great chemisty. Had Joshua just managed to bring himself into her a little more, this could have been a 10. 9/10

(Katee is so cute as a kid!!!)

Mark and Comfort Hip Hop:
Low key hip hop, Mark is looking mean and doing not bad. Courtney is hitting it but there is an arrogance about her that goes beyond the toughness required for the dance. I just don’t like her, I suppose. Overall, the routine didn’t do much for me other than some nice tricks. 7/10

Twitch and Katee Contemporary:
Katee, Katee, Katee! These could well be the final two here, dancing together. Mia Michaels routine so you know they can’t really go wrong. It didn’t quite work for me, Katee seemed to me to overdance the anger and I didn’t feel like it was ‘dancing’. It was certainly a great performance but I didn’t get the dance feel. Oh, Twitch was great but didn’t seem to have a lot to do, other than look cool. 8/10

Will and Courtney Samba:
Courtney did a great job, rhythmical and with a fairly decent action in the hips. Will, not so good, most of the time it was gliding from step to step rather than dancing it with the Samba action. Samba action is tough. Some real good partnering from him for sure, great lines, just would have liked to see a little more action and technique (point those toes out!) from him. Pretty good, though. 8/10
