New Theme Coming Soon
I am really starting to hate the theme I picked for this site, look for a change just as soon as I can find one I like. If you don’t read the MINI blog, you should as the theme there is really kind of cool, in a fruity way.
I’m disappointed, but not surprised, in the result of the San Diego Mayoral election. The results bothers me in that I really think Donna Frye has zero clue about anything to do with running a city, but what bothers me more is that she looks like a warning poster for staying out in the sun too long: wear sun block kids, or else look like this….
I’m off to England Friday evening for a week, visit my mother in her convalescent hospital, so there will be no updates for a while.
Something for you to do over the weekend
A prize for anyone who can use more than 13 pounds
In other, ahem, news I bought some new albums this week:
- Astronaut – Duran Duran
- Waiting For the Sirens’ Call – New Order
- Let’s Bottle Bohemia – The Thrills
All pretty good, but the New Order one is the best of the three.
So Think You Can Dance?
Fox (or rather producer Nigel Lythgoe) showed once again that they know how to do reality TV right; So You Think You Can Dance was far more enjoyable than Dance With The Stars. The dancing was great, we didn’t have to suffer too many fools in the auditions, and the judges were spot on with their comments. My favourite of the night was the girl in the brown dress who did a jazz/modern-type ballet with amazing footwork. Least favourite was Isis – the belly dancer with the huge fake boobs – now that was scary!
This Looks Like Fun
Last Year’s Hash House Harriers Red Dress Run; this year’s is on Saturday. I think I look ok in red….
iTunes Giveaway!
Now is definitely the time to start buying music from the iTune Music Store. If you are customer of the 500 millionth download, then you win some big prizes, including 10 iPods and a 10,000 song gift card! Right now they are at 499, 564, 000 and rising rapidly.
[Update:] So I keep forgetting that here in the USA you have to pay the taxes on any prize you win. So I figure this Apple giveaway is worth close to $15K which means, what, you’d have to give the IRS $5K?? Doesn’t seem so much of a prize anymore.
Ugh, coming home from a late lunch today, the temperature sensor on the Camry said 121F, or 49C for those of you who use sensible scales. Now that is hot.
New Addition To The Guapacha Family
Been planning on this one for a while but finally gotten to the point where I want to do it – leftturnwhenable.com will be a bulletin board site where San Diego pilots can share trip ideas, routes, problems and, most importantly, find trip buddies and safety pilots. Nothing there yet, but look out for it soon.
Oh, the reason for the name? When landing at Montgomery Field, if you land long and fast (or look like you had any difficulty) rather than tell you to take exit whatever they tell you to make a “left turn when able”. I always know I blew it when I hear that.
Poor Mr Ebbers
So another criminal ex-CEO gets some decent jail time today and once again we read about how they plead for leniency, complain about how unfair they are being treated. I don’t ever see these crooks heartily apologising for ruining thousands of peoples’ lives. The only thing they are sorry about is that they got caught and have to go to jail. Yes, I am sorry that for his wife and family who are no doubt suffering through all this but these a-wipes really don’t care about anything except themselves. No sympathy from me.
The New MINI Is Built!
Big news of the day: my new MINI has completed production! Hopefully it will be down at Southampton docks in a few days and then onto a boat headed for California. Maybe by the end of August it will be in my grubby mitts!
Dancing With The Stars – The Fix Is In
(It seems trite to talk about fluff when bombs are going off in London but life must go on. I can only say that I hope the British Government finds out who is responsible and sends our crack SAS team to visit them in their sleep)
Well, I thought I’d state my disappointment at the outcome. I don’t mind too much that Kelly won (from the beginning the reality TV boards all said she would as she was the most popular) but in the manner that she won. John and Charlotte never got a single 10 and yet they were always the “couple to beat”.
Watching the freestyle I was 100% sure that John/Charlotte would win the judges vote, Kelly has improved but she never even tries to get over her feet and that makes the whole thing look frantic. When the comments came, I knew the ‘fix’ was in.
I liked the flashback and then the return of the couples. It was great to see how much Joey had improved from that first Cha Cha, couldn’t say the same about Evander but kudos to him for being there. I was sad that we never got to see Trista dance more.
My wife called me right after and said she was disgusted at the ‘vote rigging’, this morning all my co-workers have said the same, that it was ‘clearly fixed’. As we know with Idol, all this means is that more people will watch the next season. As disappointed as I am, I bet I will still be one of them.
In Your Face, France!
We smote them at the Battle of Agincourt and now we smite them again on the killing fields of the Olympic Committee. Congratulations to London on winning the 2012 Olympic bid.
Tonight is the finale of Dancing With the Stars, will the winners be the best couple or the most popular? Will Wednesday night be the same without seeing Kelly Monaco wearing very little?
