Does Anybody Know About the Quake?!
Yeah, I was stood making a pulled pork sandwich in the kitchen at work when I felt the building slip and slide. I’d been feeling a bit dizzy from not eating but quickly realised this was an earthquake and not a blood sugar problem.
I finished making my sandwich, intending to get back to the computer to see where it was centered but on the way to my cube most everybody had the earthquake page up so I could see that it was a 5.8 east of LA. It felt big enough this far away to make us take notice, that’s for sure.
Oh, and 10 points to the first person to give me the song reference in the title. (yeah, too easy I know).
SYTYCD – The Results!
Ok, Will and Comfort in the bottom two so far.. I am 2/2…..
Mark’s up…. a little early in the order for him to be in the bottom two but surely he is the one going home tonight?
OMG, he’s safe?! I think he thought he was going home, too. No way Will is going home yet so is it Joshua?
No, no, no, Twitch in the bottom two??? No way can he be going home tonight, but now I’m worried. Got the girls right, at least.
So – Comfort and Will?
Awesome solo from Courtney, just brilliant. And Twitch – no one does it like him. If he goes, I’ll be very sad..
Bye Bye Comfort, you should have gone last week.
Phew, Twitch survives but I am very surprised about Will leaving tonight.
Mark and Courtney next week, I think.
And America? Vote for Twitch next week, don’t assume he is safe!
SYTYCD Live Blogging Top 8
Ok, the final 8, keep checking back for live updates…..
Final Scores….
Joshua and Chelsea – 17
Mark and Comfort – 13
Twitch and Katee – 17
Will and Courtney – 17
If I factor in the solos, and individual performances amongst the partner dances, my prediction for bottom two:
Guys: Mark, Will.
Girls: Comfort, Courtney (but maybe my beloved Katee).
Going home: Comfort and Mark.
Video of the Week
I think this is the first time I’ve posted a video of the week from an ‘amateur’ but I love this acoustic cover of Flobot’s Handlebars.
And if you want to see/hear the original, you can check it out at this link; they don’t allow embedding.
[Updated] SYTYCD Predictions
I hate to do two posts so close together but whilst here (in CA) we don’t yet know who are the first two to leave the top 10 (well, top 9 + Komfort) I wanted to go on record with my final 4 prediction:
- Final 2 guys – Will and Twitch
- Final 2 girls – Katee and Chelsea
My final two prediction in a week or two.
Oh – going home tonight? Er, Mark and Komfort
[Update] Ok, America got it 100% wrong. Actually I was split between Mark and Gev but no way should Kherrington have left tonight. Shame on you all who voted for Komfort. But, it doesn’t affect my final 4 prediction.
Things I’ve Changed My Mind About
On the drive home tonight I realised that there are several things that I have completely changed my mind about over time:
- nuclear power
- growing crops in the desert
- the death penalty
I am sure there are more but right now those are the best I can come up with.
Phrase of the Week
Courtesy of my Dad this weekend:
You should get an electric lawn mower, they are as cheap as chips.
[Note that chips here refers to fries, though chips (which we call crisps) are also cheap].
Friday Video: Puppet Theatre Outtakes
Even in the puppet theatre world, the actors can have a bad day. Sometimes you know the old joke too well to be able to do it the new way. And other times, you just have idiots for stars. You decide.

New Tech in the House
Well, I CAN HAS BONUS, so purchases were made and arrived around the holiday weekend. Here’s a brief roundup of what came our way.
- Amazon Kindle, a present for Teri who had wanted one for a long time. I might do a mini-review at some point but it’s an interesting device. The electronic-ink screen is gorgeous, looks like the letters are stuck to the glass and it seems easy to use. Biggest downside for us is that there is no Sprint EVDO where we live so can’t download anything wirelessly, makes subscribing to newspapers/magazines sub-optimal.
- AMD Athlon™ 64 X2 dual-core processor 5000+ PC, 4GB RAM, Teri bought this for herself so she would have something reliable to hook the Kindle to. First one was dead on arrival, had to return it for another. First time I’ve seen and touched Vista and I can’t say there is much to be excited about, just another Windows operating system. Different to XP, had to find the things I normally use but for day to day use, seems ok. I installed AVG and within minutes it had found a Trojan horse in one of the pre-installed try-ware programs -wtf?
- Nintendo DS Lite (Cobalt), I couldn’t not have something to play with so got this for the weekend. Been wanting one for a while so had it overnighted from Amazon (yea, for $3.99 shipping on Amazon Prime). I have a feeling it won’t occupy me for long but right now I am enjoying playing with my virtual puppy, Lucky, and training my brain on a daily basis.
I anticipate adding the iPhone to that list in a few weeks but that’s it for the mad spending for now.
