This really is turning into quite the year: yesterday, the group I am contracted to announced they were terminating everyone’s contract at the end of the year and would only be rehiring some of us. Given where I think this group is moving towards I am pretty confident that my name won’t be on that list so I’ve no idea what I will be doing come January 1 (well, other than singing Auld Lang Syne at midnight). The company I work for will probably keep me on doing something for them but, for now, I’ve really no idea. We are supposed to here by the end of the week as to who stays and who goes.

I love turkey. I love jelly – or rather, for my American readers, I love jell-o – so why not combine the two with your very own turkey shaped jelly! Who wants some?!

During my research into treatments and procedures for brain tumours I read many personal web pages documenting struggles against brain tumours, most were unfortunately for people who had already passed but there were two that were putting up a good fight. Although I don’t know either person it did feel like we were all in this together so I am saddened today to read that one of them died over the weekend. The irony is that she was tumour-free, and had been for many months. Rather it was the radiation treatment that killed her, eventually causing the destruction of her brain’s healthy cells. Others may disagree, but its clear to me that a brain tumour is one of the absolute worst diagnoses you could get, its a real death sentence, and with not much time to get ready for it. And as the brave woman who lost her fight this weekend shows, even if you are able to get rid of it, the cure is likely just as bad as the disease.

#14: Going to the urinal, unzipping your trousers and being unable to find the opening in your underwear. So you have to stand there, hand inside your trousers, while you fondle about for a bit, aware that anyone else in there with you is wondering what the hell you’re up to. Only thing worse is then finding out that your boxers are on backwards…..

Some train rides I’d like to take:

• The new Lhasa to Qinghai railway, the highest railway in the world at 16,600 feet up.
• The Ghan railway between Adelaide and Darwin in Australia.
• The Chihuahua al Pacífico Train, otherwise known as the Copper Canyon train in Mexico.
• The Empire train, from New York to Niagra Falls.

I am sure there are more but thats a good start. Keep an eye on my photo page over the next 20 years for the pictures.

I am sad to say that my mother has passed on to whatever lies beyond, finally finding peace from the suffering of the last few months. Although it hurts tremendously there is comfort in knowing that she is with her parents, and her beloved sisters Arlene and Karen who she missed so much.

The world has been a sadder place ever since Mum started to suffer the symptoms of the brain tumour at the beginning of the year; her kindess, generosity and great spirit will be missed by all who knew her and loved her. She was all that one could hope for in a mother, wife and sister and those of us she leaves behind will feel an emptiness forever.

Watching the hurricane coverage on the weather channel last night I was reminded how that really would be my dream job. I am always envious of those reporters standing in the winds, making the reports before scurrying for shelter. Guess I should have gotten a degree in weather rather than computers.

One of my new year’s resolutions for this site is to include more pictures, oh and to get rid of this annoying lemon flavoured theme. In respect of the first goal, here’s a picture of a hamster-powered cell phone charger:

In the rant of the week, why are local radio stations beeping out the phunk when playing the Black Eyed Peas’ Don’t Phunk With My Heart? One station has even changed the lyric to mess rather than phunk. Last I heard (ph)funk wasn’t a rude word. Sure, it sounds like a rude word but you hear much worse on an episode of Friends each night (and five times a night).
