Added Last Post to The Blogs

without comments

Thanks to a neat new service at FeedDigest.com I was able to add a list of the most recent posts at the other guapacha blogs in just a couple of minutes. Now you don’t need to visit the other sites to see if they are updated. Of course, you could just subscribe to the RSS feeds but I kinda like it like this.

Cool Site of the Day

with one comment

If you like Flickr then you might appreciate YouTube which is for video, what flickr is for photos. You can upload your videos, tag them for searches etc. Like flickr, most of it is pretty pointless – I really don’t care to watch your cat walk across the lawn – but there are probably some gems (read: hot girls) in there, too.

Some Fun With North Korea

with one comment

I’ve never really paid much attention to the press releases of North Korea (yes, I know what have I been doing) but now I don’t need to. Thanks to the NK News website I can now catch up on everything coming out of there since 1996 and the rhetoric is pretty funny. I particularly like the statement that the US is “a pack of beasts in human skin and the inveterate enemy with whom the Korean nation cannot live under the same sky”.

New Theme Coming Soon

with 3 comments

I am really starting to hate the theme I picked for this site, look for a change just as soon as I can find one I like. If you don’t read the MINI blog, you should as the theme there is really kind of cool, in a fruity way.

I’m disappointed, but not surprised, in the result of the San Diego Mayoral election. The results bothers me in that I really think Donna Frye has zero clue about anything to do with running a city, but what bothers me more is that she looks like a warning poster for staying out in the sun too long: wear sun block kids, or else look like this….

I’m off to England Friday evening for a week, visit my mother in her convalescent hospital, so there will be no updates for a while.

A prize for anyone who can use more than 13 pounds

In other, ahem, news I bought some new albums this week:

All pretty good, but the New Order one is the best of the three.

New Addition To The Guapacha Family

without comments

Been planning on this one for a while but finally gotten to the point where I want to do it – leftturnwhenable.com will be a bulletin board site where San Diego pilots can share trip ideas, routes, problems and, most importantly, find trip buddies and safety pilots. Nothing there yet, but look out for it soon.

Oh, the reason for the name? When landing at Montgomery Field, if you land long and fast (or look like you had any difficulty) rather than tell you to take exit whatever they tell you to make a “left turn when able”. I always know I blew it when I hear that.

In Your Face, France!

We smote them at the Battle of Agincourt and now we smite them again on the killing fields of the Olympic Committee. Congratulations to London on winning the 2012 Olympic bid.

Tonight is the finale of Dancing With the Stars, will the winners be the best couple or the most popular? Will Wednesday night be the same without seeing Kelly Monaco wearing very little?

Recovery Time, Please.

with one comment

Tomorrow marks the last day of radiation treatment for my mother’s brain tumour. 29 visits, three blasts a trip, has taken a very heavy toll on her health, far more than any of my reading had prepared us for. From here there are supposedly two ‘bad weeks’ before she stands any chance of getting better; I can’t really imagine how she can get any worse. I’m not sure how my father and sister are able to cope with it day to day, watching our strong independent mother lose so much function so fast. And perhaps forever.

Even though you don’t know her, if you believe in prayer, voodoo, magic, or whatever, I ask that you please will her fast relief from her symptoms.

Some News Items

with one comment

Couple of neat things happening this week.

Ordered a new MINI to replace my existing one, will hopefully be here in late August, early September.

Finally, after almost a year of staying in hotels in San Diego during the week, I am taking on an apartment today, very close to where I work. Its just a little studio but it will be great to be able to leave stuff there and not have to check in every couple of days. If you’re in the neighbourhood, stop in for a cold one.

Nice Work If You Can Get It

From The Smoking Gun archives: In a bid to crack down on strip clubs and adult video stores, the city fathers of Knoxville, Tennessee allowed a private investigator to use municipal funds to pay for lap dances, beers, and tips to female dancers.
