My head is exploding

without comments

UPop is playing this song all the time and I can’t get it out of my head. The urge to kill is growing stronger. Coincidence or related?

Steel Gone Bad

without comments

I bought a bottle of wine Weds night from a 7/11 near Montgomery Fielld airport (premium gas was only $2.06!!!), got it home and was screwing my cork screw into the cork when the metal just sheared in half. It took no effort, I was twisting it and without warning the metal piece just broke in half. I tried all manner of things to push the cork in the bottle but wasn’t able to do it. I put the bottle in the fridge whilst I thought about it some more.

On the way home last night I remembered that I had another corkscrew in the MINI! I found a space in the top of the cork where I could get the corkscrew in, was twisting it in nicely and, bam, the damn thing twisted in half again. So this cork destroyed two strips of metal and I gave up and went alcohol free. I wish I’d had my leatherman tool with me, that horse’s hoof dealie might have been just the ticket!

In other news the world is getting much hotter due to global dimming. No, not the intelligence of SUV drivers, but we’re getting less sunlight apparantly and this is making the world hotter. Go check it out.

Stick it to Ken Lay

without comments

Apparantly Ken Lay is paying search engines to display his “I’m innocent” website when you search for his name. So if you feel like sticking it to the creep and making him cough up 5 cents or so, go search for his name and click on his link. NB. It appears he may already have deleted his ad campaign.

TiVo ToGo

without comments

I’ve been wanting TiVo for a while now but have always found a reason not to go for it. But their new service TiVo ToGo might change that – download the shows you record to your computer, burn them to DVD if you want. Also schedule your recordings over the ‘net if you connect your box to your home network.

I want, I want, I want!

Happy 2005!

with one comment

Just wanted to wish you all a Happy New Year and all that. Its going to be quite a year of travel for me… already confirmed:

  • March – A Mini Vacation in Vegas 2
  • March – parents 40th wedding anniversary at Sandals, St Lucia
  • May – sister’s wedding in England
  • May – best friend Steve’s wedding in England (too bad they couldn’t coordinate so I only have to make one trip)
  • June – US Formula One Grand Prix, hurrah for having a brother-in-law who lives in Indianapolis!

And possibly a trip to New York or Edinburgh for New Year’s Eve, though after two transatlantic and one trans-continental flights I might be happy just to sit at home and get an early night.

Wishing you all a good one!

The Asian Disaster

with one comment

I was reading today about the pledges of aid for victims in the Indian Ocean earthquake and it frankly strikes me as pathetic.

  • EU $44m
  • US: $35m
  • Canada: $33m
  • Japan: $30m
  • UK: $28.9m
  • Australia: $27m
  • France: $20.4m
  • Denmark: $15.6m
  • Saudi Arabia: $10m
  • Norway: $6.6m

Mozambique, one of the poorest countries in the world, has offered $100,000; even the despicable Pfizer has given $35m.

More money was spent by many of the presidential nomination candidates than is being offered up by these governments. The scale of the disaster is impossible to comprehend, not just in deaths but in how to clean up the areas and let alone how to rebuild them. It will take a lot more money than is being offered to make even a dent in the problem. People and governments need to start coughing up to help these people.

With that said, I wish you all a Happy New Year.

DVD Movies $9.99 – Your Choice!

with 2 comments

I saw this sign in Fry’s last night and it got me thinking about whether anyone offers cheap DVDs but doesn’t let you choose ?

Listening to a co-worker giving us a lecture on how to solve the world’s problems (I am lucky to have such an expert on world policy so close by) I am struggling to keep quiet. Why do so many Americans insist on making the vowel at the beginning of country names their own syllable? They don’t say A-merica so why do they insist on saying I-raq ? Argh, and now she is saying A-zores!

Just Some Links

without comments

More interesting that I thought it would be, here is a blog for Elyse Sewell, one of the America’s Next Top Model contestents. She has some interesting items about modelling in Japan, and about Tyra Banks.

This looks cool for organising photos, both digi and cam-phone stylee: Flickr. Recommended ‘to’ me by one of the developers of Yahoo Photos in their blog it looks pretty good. I may convert my photo website to it. Talking of which, I need to update that site some time.

And here is the Apple store of the future??

Pfizer: Celebrex shows risk in study

with one comment

This story is the best Christmas present ever! As many may know my time working for Pfizer was as hateful as they come. Clueless managers, pointless projects and no direction from anyone, and I hear it gets worse. I read an article at the time Vioxx was taken off the market which said that, whilst Pfizer had made no studies public to this fact, it was to be anticipated that Celebrex could be similarly harmful. Their weasely CEO Hank McKinnell gloated at the time that their drug was safe, now he feigns surprise at this latest study. Give me a break – lawsuits are coming your way and I will laugh as your stock price plummets.

Couldn’t happen to a more deserving company.
