Roe vs Wade for Men

with one comment

So I was watching CNN this morning and saw this article about giving men parental choice, like women ‘currently do’. In essence these guys want the right to say “you have the choice to have or not to have the baby, and I have the right to say that if you have it I will not be responsible”. The guy bringing the lawsuit said he told the girl he didn’t want to be a father but they got pregnant anyway – why should he have to pay anything towards it, she knew his wishes. What an idiot. We don’t need a law to ‘protect’ men from being fathers, we have things called condoms, maybe next time this guy should try one. Read more about these halfwits at the National Center For Men.
Is it me or are we becoming a nation of people who won’t take responsibiity for anything. I got you pregnant – not my deal! I spilled hot coffee on my lap whilst driving – not my fault! Come on people, be adults, not children.

Quote of the Day

without comments

Stole this from the signature of a poster on an aviation board:

Calling an illegal alien an undocumented worker is like calling a burglar an “undocumented houseguest”

Off to England for Christmas on Thursday (unless someone cancels the flight again!), can’t guarantee any more posts until the New Year. So, let me wish you all a very merry Christmas and keep up the good work for 2006.

That’s Mr Perfecto To You

with one comment

I’ve blogged before about winning the office (American) football pool despite being totally clueless (and disinterested) in the game. Imagine the disgust of my poolies this week then when I not only won the pool for a second time but I also went perfecto – all 16 winners forecast correctly. Sadly there was no extra prize for the being the first person in the group to achieve this feat but the look of upset on the faces of the, ahem, experts was maybe reward enough.

Stay Extended

without comments

Thought I would update my immigration status, lest you be worried that I am soon to be carried off in the night by dark-suited goons. I recently received a letter from the USCIS to let me know my conditional permanent residence has been extended a year pending processing of my application to become a permanent permanent resident. The letter says it will be a minimum of 330 days before I hear anything from them and to, basically, leave them the hell alone for a year. The processing times page currently shows them working on cases filed in June so I might hear from them earlier, who knows.

In real immigration news, the White House this week published a Fact Sheet: Securing America Through Immigration Reform which surprisingly contains some very good ideas. I hope that many of the items contained therein come to fruition.

Trade a Paper Clip for a House?

without comments

This guy Kyle is trying to trade his way up from a red paperclip to a house, or maybe an island or maybe something bigger. Currently he’s at a 100W generator. If you have something better you’d like to trade for that, visit his site and let him know.

Up Yours Exxon Mobil

with one comment

The price of gas might seem to be going down but it is still a staggering $2.80+ for the el premo variety here in CA. And now Exxon Mobil announces a whopping $9.9 billion profit for the last quarter, up 75%. So the whole country is suffering, people can’t make ends meet because of high gas prices and Exxon is living high on the hog. Forget the price gouging dealer on the street corner, these are the *!%@ers who should be taken to task. Now I know this is just capitalism at its finest but there should be some moral responsibility out there, shouldn’t there?

Time for More Immigration Fun!

without comments

This weekend, Teri and I put together the package for applying to remove the conditional status on my Green Card which ‘expires’ in January. Its always a stressful time trying to work out what proof they might want to see so that you don’t get asked for more information, and one mistake on the form can cause huge delays, too. The packet was in the mail this morning so hopefully we will get a receipt soon and then wait to see what happens next. The California Service Centre is currently 4 months behind so perhaps we will hear sometime in February.

Why am I conditional, you ask? Well, if you qualify through marriage the government wants you to have been married two years to prove that the marriage is real. If you have your interview before your second anniversary then you are approved ‘conditionally’. But, and here is the crazy part, your conditional period is two years from the day you were approved, not from when you got married. So if you are unlucky enough to have your interview a year and 11 months after your wedding, it will be a total of 3 years and 11 months before you are a real permanent resident. No, makes no sense to anyone else either.

Winning This Week’s Lottery

without comments

With the MegaMillions lottery now at $250M I bet there are plenty of people out there planning on buying a ticket. According to my calculations you would end up with about $70M in your pocket after taxes. Now that’s pretty sweet, more than enough to buy my dream plane, the Cirrus SR-22 GTS. Though with that money, maybe I’d buy one of the new personal jets!

Anyway, I thought I’d post a link to this article with some tips and information about playing the lotto. Remember, you have next to no chance of winning, so just send me your $bill directly and skip the middle man!

Poor Mr Ebbers

without comments

So another criminal ex-CEO gets some decent jail time today and once again we read about how they plead for leniency, complain about how unfair they are being treated. I don’t ever see these crooks heartily apologising for ruining thousands of peoples’ lives. The only thing they are sorry about is that they got caught and have to go to jail. Yes, I am sorry that for his wife and family who are no doubt suffering through all this but these a-wipes really don’t care about anything except themselves. No sympathy from me.
